US drafted to extend arms embargo on Iran indefinitely

The United States has sought more support for this from the 15-member UN Security Council, where Russia and China, among the five permanent member states that hold veto power, have expressed strong opposition.

However, this new proposal has not yet been made public. Diplomats said the revised draft is smaller than the original draft was delivered in June. Several provisions have been made in the draft which some diplomats may object to. It is noteworthy that in 2010 the United Nations banned Tehran for the purchase of a large foreign weapons system due to Iran’s nuclear program.
