Number of unemployed increased
According to the latest data released by the ministry on Thursday, 11 lakh people applied for unemployment allowance last week. Increasing their numbers after two consecutive weeks of decline indicates that there are still layoffs in many companies. The latest figures show that the economy is weak even after more than five months of the virus outbreak. This situation is followed by the reopening of some businesses recently and the boom in some sectors such as housing and manufacturing.
Jobs are going continuouslyUnemployment claims fell for the first time since March to 9,71,000, down from 1 million last week. Most of the victims of layoffs believe that they have been permanently fired. The ministry said that in the meantime, the total number of people receiving benefits of unemployment allowance decreased from 155 lakh to 148 lakh last week. However, now these people are getting much less benefits than before, because the federal government plan of $ 600 per week has expired.
US President Donald Trump signed a new federal unemployment assistance scheme last week. Under this, people will be given a profit of $ 300 per week. Apart from this, various state governments are running schemes at their level. (With language input)
